Creating Your First Child (New Users)

If you're new to StarKid, the app will guide you through creating your first child profile:

Internet Required for Setup

Initial setup and account sync require an internet connection. Once set up, you can view most data offline, but changes need internet to sync across devices.

Goals System

The Goals tab is the heart of StarKid's motivation system, featuring daily and weekly objectives that help children build consistent habits.

StarKid offers two types of goals to keep children motivated:

Daily Goals

  • Reset every day: Fresh start at midnight
  • Common examples: "Complete 3 tasks" or "Earn 8 stars"

  • Quick wins: Achievable within a single day

Weekly Goals

  • Monday to Sunday: Reset every Monday at midnight
  • Bigger challenges: "Complete 25 tasks" or "Earn 50 stars"

Goal Management

Server-Managed Goal Templates

Goals are automatically created from server-managed templates. Each child gets personalized goals based on their preferences:

  • Daily Task Goals: "Complete 3 tasks" (+3 ⭐), "Complete 5 tasks" (+6 ⭐)
  • Daily Star Goals: "Earn 8 stars" (+2 ⭐), "Earn 15 stars" (+6 ⭐)

Goal Preferences Management

Bonus Star System

When goals are completed, children automatically receive bonus stars:

How Bonus Stars Work

  1. Child completes tasks or earns stars through regular activities
  2. System automatically detects when a goal is completed
  3. Bonus stars are immediately added to child's total
  4. Goal shows "Completed! (+X ⭐ bonus earned)" message
  5. Bonus appears in history as a separate "goal_bonus" entry
  6. Goal becomes available again at the next reset period

Motivation Strategy

Goals work best when children can achieve at least one daily goal regularly. This builds confidence and maintains engagement with the system.

Goal Reset Timing

  • Daily goals: Reset at midnight local time
  • Weekly goals: Reset Monday at midnight (Monday-Sunday weeks)
  • Progress tracking: Continues from where it left off
  • Bonus awards: Only given once per goal period

Sync Note

Goal progress is automatically updated when tasks are completed anywhere (web or mobile). Make sure you have internet connection for real-time updates.

Tasks & Rewards on iOS
