Account & Setup

How many children can I add to my account?
You can add multiple children to your StarKid account. Each child gets their own profile with custom avatar, individual chore assignments, and separate star tracking. This makes it perfect for families of any size.
Can I customize chores and rewards?
Absolutely! While we provide pre-made chore and reward templates to get you started quickly, you can create completely custom chores and rewards. You can:
  • Set custom star values for chores (1-10 stars)
  • Set custom star costs for rewards (1-100 stars)

  • Create chores and rewards that are meaningful to your family

Using StarKid

How do I award stars to my children?
There are several ways to award stars:
  • Complete chores: Click on a chore when your child completes it to automatically award the star value
  • Manual star addition: Use the "+" button to add stars for good behavior or extra tasks
  • Quick actions: Use the star control buttons for common amounts (1, 2, 5 stars)
All star transactions are tracked in the history page so you can see exactly when and why stars were awarded.
What happens when my child wants to spend stars on a reward?
When your child wants to "purchase" a reward, simply click on the reward in the app. The system will automatically deduct the required stars from their total if they have enough. The transaction is logged in the history, and you can then provide the real-world reward (extra screen time, special outing, etc.).
Can I remove stars if needed?
Yes, you can remove stars using the "-" button or quick action controls. This might be useful for behavioral corrections or if stars were awarded by mistake. All star removals are tracked in the history for transparency.
How do I track my family's progress?
StarKid provides a comprehensive history page where you can see:
  • All star transactions (earned and spent)
  • Which chores were completed and when
  • Which rewards were claimed
  • Patterns in your family's activity
This helps you celebrate improvements and identify areas that might need attention.

Parenting Tips & Best Practices

How many stars should I assign to different chores?
Star values should reflect the difficulty and time required for each chore:
  • 1-2 stars: Simple tasks like putting away toys, feeding pets
  • 3-4 stars: Medium tasks like setting the table, making their bed
  • 5-7 stars: Challenging tasks like cleaning their room, helping with dishes
  • 8-10 stars: Major tasks like organizing closets, helping with yard work
Adjust based on your child's age and abilities!
What makes a good reward?
The best rewards are meaningful to your child and encourage positive behavior:
  • Experiences: Extra bedtime story, special outing, movie night
  • Privileges: Extra screen time, staying up late on weekends
  • Small treats: Favorite snack, small toy, special meal choice
  • Time together: One-on-one time, choosing family activity
Remember: the goal is building intrinsic motivation, so focus on experiences over material items when possible.
My child isn't motivated by the rewards. What should I do?
This is normal! Try these strategies:
  • Ask your child what rewards they'd find motivating
  • Make sure star costs aren't too high - quick wins build momentum
  • Celebrate the effort, not just completion
  • Consider adding variety to keep things interesting
  • Remember that building habits takes time - be patient
Every child is different, so don't be afraid to experiment and adjust!
How do I transition away from the reward system eventually?
The goal is to build intrinsic motivation over time:
  • Gradually increase the focus on how good it feels to help the family
  • Praise the character traits being developed (responsibility, helpfulness)
  • Slowly increase time between rewards
  • Involve children in setting family goals rather than individual rewards
  • Celebrate the family working together as a team
StarKid can be a stepping stone to lifelong positive habits!
